Mill House Spa will soon begin offering botox injections! We are hosting Dr. Erin Kalan as our certified Allergan injector. Dr. Kalan is a primary care physician from Orange, Virginia, currently living and practicing in Arlington, Virginia. She will join us one Friday per month beginning on December 13, 2019 and increase her hours as the demand dictates.
Many people have heard of botox but may not know much about the process. Botox treatments are injectable, and therefore should be administered by a licensed medical practitioner. Botox injections temporarily reduce the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe facial lines so skin looks visibly smoother. Patients report that the injections feel like a pinch. Visible results begin appearing in 24 to 48 hours after treatment and can last for up to four months. The injectable takes two to four days to attach to the nerve ending, so maximum results are seen 10 to 14 days after a treatment. If you’re getting Botox for a big event we recommend booking your appointment two weeks prior to the event. If you plan to make regular appointments speak with Dr. Kalan so she can recommend an ideal frequency for your age and skin type. On average, patients opt for treatments every three to four months. Botox is not permanent; if treatments are discontinued facial lines will gradually reappear. The treatment takes about ten minutes and patients do not need any downtime afterwards. In fact, we recommend pairing Botox with a Hydrafacial!
Allergan is the manufacturer of Botox so you may see that Dr. Kalan is our “certified Allergan injector.” She graduated from medical school in West Virginia in 2013 and completed her residency at the University of Virginia. Dr. Kalan spends the majority of her time as a general practitioner but chooses to administer botox because it brings her patients such joy. Dr. Kalan recognizes that medicine must encompass traditional practices such as surgery and prescription medication but also believes it should address core concepts including lifestyle, nutrition, mindfulness practices and prevention. She believes in the body’s incredible ability to heal itself. For Dr. Kalan, facial rejuvenation is an incredible opportunity to enhance a client’s natural beauty while integrating the importance of nutrition and lifestyle. She joins us after three years at MedSpa of Virginia where she performed Botox injections.
Please call for Dr. Kalan’s specific schedule if you are interested in booking a treatment. Mill House Spa can be reached at 540.317.1206, ext. 203.
Whether you operate on a fiscal year calendar or a traditional calendar year, fall is the time for annual planning. We are seeing an increase in our corporate business inquiries as organizations plan their events for 2020. I thought it would be valuable to share answers to some of our most frequently asked questions pertaining to meetings and events here at the Inn at Willow Grove.
Fall is here and the days are short. With less time outside and the holidays rapidly approaching, there is an inclination to lose focus on our health and wellness. During this season, Mill House Spa would like to help.
Mill House Spa is the full-service spa located on property at the Inn at Willow Grove. Our licensed practitioners provide body work, including massages, and facials. Popular services include the Mill House Signature Massage (for fifty or eighty minutes, priced at $155 and $235 respectively), and ELEMIS Pro-Collagen Age Defy facial (priced at $180 for 60 minutes). ELEMIS products are plant-based and vegan friendly. Mill House Spa proudly offers ELEMIS skincare products for purchase.
Beginning on Sunday, November 10, Mill House Spa added Hydrafacials to their service menu. Consistently safe and effective, Hydrafacial is a medical-grade hydradermabrasion resurfacing treatment that clears pores and hydrates skin. Using the power of water and a patented Hydrafacial tool with spiralized treatment tips, skin is cleansed while potent plumping products are pushed into pores. Painful extractions are not necessary using this technology, delivering a truly relaxing experience. Improved texture and tone and a radiant glow are instantly created without residual redness the next day. This is the perfect treatment for brides! Those with acne and sun or aging spots will see immediate results. To see visible and lasting results, schedule a Hydrafacial every six to eight weeks. Scheduling one even three or four times a year would be beneficial.
Hydrafacials are offered at Mill House Spa in three different tiers: 30-minute, 45-minute or 60-minute. A 30-minute signature Hydrafacial deeply cleanses, extracts and hydrates the skin through our super serums filled with antioxidants, peptides and hyaluronic acid, priced at $199. The 45-minute deluxe Hydrafacial includes all of the essentials of the Signature Hydrafacial while addressing specific skin concerns through Hydrafacial’s boosters and protocols, priced at $275. The 60-minute platinum Hydrafacial is the ultimate Hydrafacial experience. It begins with intense detoxification in the form of Lymphatic Drainage. Followed by a Signature Hydrafacial to deeply cleanse, extract and hydrate and then topped off with the booster of your choice. The treatment concludes with LED Light Therapy to further reduce the signs of aging. Priced at $299.

The leaves have turned their gorgeous fall shades of orange, red and gold here in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. While Virginia is showing off her peak foliage, it seems the perfect time to tell you what to do in the areas surrounding the Inn at Willow Grove.
If you are a first-time reader, take note that the Inn at Willow Grove has a full-service spa called Mill House Spa and a four-star restaurant called Vintage, both located on property. We also have walking trails, fire pits and lawn games, so you can enjoy fall in the Virginia Foothills without ever leaving the comfort of our thirty-eight acre property.
Should you choose to venture into town, Orange is a short two-minute drive from our front porch. In downtown, you’ll find quaint shops and dining, including our very own Forked on Main and Objects on Main. Just east of downtown, there is a small county-owned, public-use airport (OMH). Here you’ll find Skydive Orange, which will give you a real bird’s eye view of the area! For those slightly less adventurous air travelers, you may prefer to see the sights in a hot air balloon provided by Blue Ridge Ballooning.
If you wish to keep you feet on the ground and use them for hiking, we highly recommend Shenandoah National Park which I wrote more about in a previous blog. The Market at Grelen also has hiking trails as does James Madison’s Montpelier. Grelen is a great family spot with a small cafe and pick-your-own seasonal fruit. Montpelier is the home of former president James Madison and his wife, Dolley. Tour their home and check out the most recent archaeological excavations. Every year on the first weekend of November, Montpelier hosts the Hunt Races which draw equestrians, families and tailgaters.
If tailgating is something that interests you, we recommend a wine tour. Central Virginia Wine Tours will transport guests from the Inn at Willow Grove to local wineries. Our favorites include Early Mountain Vineyards, Barboursville, and Honah Lee. If craft beer is what you’re after, check out Shotwell Run Brewing Company in Etlan or venture west into Keswick for cider at Castle Hill Cider.
I personally love when I can visit an area and have the option of doing many things or nothing at all. Stay with us at the Inn at Willow Grove and you’ll have the best of both worlds!
October is a beautiful month in the Virginia Foothills. The leaves are turning hues of orange, gold, and red. The crisp, cool temperatures make it pleasant outside. The sun is shining. On Saturday, October 12, all those elements combined to create a beautiful backdrop for Jessie and Juan-Miguel’s wedding day.
Jessie and Juan-Miguel hosted 110 guests here at the Inn at Willow Grove for their ceremony in the Boxwood Gardens and their reception in the Barn and Ruins. Our Boxwood Garden is, as the name implies, flanked by boxwoods creating a private, almost cocoon-like space behind our historic manor house. Jessie and Juan-Miguel were married under our white pergola, which they chose to leave bare to showcase the space in its natural beauty. They utilized our white padded folding chairs for their guests, which were set up on either side of the brick aisle.
After their ceremony, all guests moved to cocktail hour at the slate patio just down the path from the Boxwood Gardens while Jessie and Juan-Miguel took pictures on our overlook lawn. The overlook truly “overlooks” the entire property as well as an expansive field behind our fence, which provides an unobstructed backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The scenery is breathtaking. Many of our transient guests do not venture up to the overlook, but we encourage all of our wedding couples to use the space for pictures. We even transport them on our Kubota for ease of use!
The reception was held in our Barn, so named for its red exterior, rustic beam running the length of the ceiling, and chunky floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace. 110 guests comfortably fit at our round tables; our maximum capacity is 200. We provide all flatware, glassware, pintuck linens, tables and chiavari chairs for up to 150 guests. Jessie and Juan-Miguel served a plated meal. Guests selected from either chicken couscous or rack of lamb. All of our meals are prepared by our banquet culinary team; we do not permit outside food and beverages.
After dinner, the party moved to the adjacent Ruins for dancing and more cocktails. The stone foundation of the ruins are original to our historic property. We retained them during our excavation and renovation in 2008, but now have a permanent tent with perimeter lighting resting atop the stone walls. Many couples adorn the space with additional lighting such as chandeliers or bistro lights, but nothing is necessary.
We had a great time celebrating with this fabulous couple and wish them many more years of happiness! For more information on our weddings, contact Michele Sigler at 540.317.1206 or email@example.com.
